The layout was inspired by the Hornby “Build it” feature whereby the Hornby magazine published monthly articles with guidance on building a small terminus.
The idea was mooted at the club and a group was formed to build the layout. The basic Hornby idea was expanded and plans were drawn up. Ready made baseboards were available so work began on track laying. The original “finished by Christmas” idea has been stifled by adding new concepts as we go along.
It was decided to name the layout in some way after our late exhibition manager, Paddy Welsh, and so it became Padlam Junction!
